SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Saturday afternoon, the Wofford College baseball team was defeated 3-0 by Wright State at Russell C. King Field. The Raiders scored three runs on six hits while holding the Terrier offense to just three hits in the contest.
Wofford is 3-7 on the season, while Wright State is 6-4. The Terriers had one hit each by
Brett Hash,
Carson Waln and
Mack Nathanson. For the Raiders, Daniel Arthur had two hits and Matt Morrow drive in two runs on a home run in the fifth inning.
The Raiders were retired in order in the top of the first.
Kody Ruedisili reach first on an error, stole second and moved to third on an error, but was stranded after a strikeout. Wright State had a single in the top of the second and Wofford was retired in order to end the second. After the Raiders went in order in the third,
Mack Nathanson led off with a double down the left field line. He was caught stealing third and the game moved to the fourth inning.
A single led off the top of the fourth for the Raiders and it was followed by a walk. Back-to-back fielder's choices led to one run scoring for a 1-0 lead.
Brett Hash singled with one out in the bottom of the fourth and
Max McDougald reached on a strikeout/wild pitch with two outs, but the Terriers were unable to score.
In the top of the fifth, the Raiders led off with a single. With two outs, Matt Morrow hit a home run down the right line and Wright State had a 3-0 advantage.
Carson Waln singled to open the bottom of the fifth. He was caught stealing second base for the second out and a foul out ended the fifth frame.
Wright State added a single in the top of the sixth, but the runner failed to advance.
Alex Malsch walked for the Terriers and reached third base before a strikeout ended the inning. Both teams were retired in order in the seventh inning. The Raiders led off the eighth with a walk, but the runner was left at third base to end the top half. Wofford opened with a walk by
Mack Nathanson and he moved to second on a wild pitch. After advancing to third on a fly ball, a foul out ended the scoring chance.
In the ninth inning, the Raiders left one runner on base after a single and the Terriers were retired in order to end the game.

Spencer Kulman (1-2) went a career-long 7.1 innings and allowed three runs on five hits, along with seven strikeouts.
David Ehmen worked a clean two-thirds of an inning.
Jake Hershman gave up one hit in two-thirds of an inning and
Merritt Huber recorded the final out.
Zane Collins (1-2) started for the Raiders and in seven innings did not allow a run on three hits with seven strikeouts. Jeremy Randolph earned his first save of the season by going the final two innings without allowing a hit and striking out two.
Wofford will have before a road game at USC Upstate at 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The Terriers will then be at home for the next ten games, beginning Tuesday afternoon against LaSalle.
