GREENSBORO, N.C. – In the opening game of a three-game series, the Wofford College baseball team defeated UNCG 13-4 at UNCG Baseball Stadium on Thursday night. The Terriers scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-3 lead and added eight runs in the final three innings to earn the win.  
                    
Wofford is 19-16 on the season and 4-3 in the Southern Conference. UNCG moves to 21-12 overall and 7-3 in the league. The Terriers were led by 
Kody Ruedisili with three hits, while 
McClain Bradley, 
Andrew Orzel and 
Mack Nathanson each had two RBIs. Cesar Trejo had two hits and a pair of RBIs to lead the Spartans. Wofford outhit the Spartans 14 to 8, with UNCG committing four errors in the contest.
 
The Terriers were retired in order in the top of the first inning and the Spartans left one runner on base after a single. Wofford went in order in the second inning and UNCG led off the bottom of the second with a single. With one out, a home run by Cesar Trejo gave the Spartans a 2-0 lead.
 
Mack Nathanson walked with one out in the third inning, but a double play ended the top half. The Spartans added a single with one out and with two outs an RBI single pushed the advantage to 3-0. 
Kody Ruedisili, 
McClain Bradley and 
Brett Hash hit three straight doubles to open the fourth inning and cut the lead to 3-2. Hash moved to third on a passed ball and 
Carson Waln walked. A bunt single by 
Andrew Orzel scored Hash to tie the game at 3-3. With one out, a single by 
Max McDougald combined with a throwing error allowed two runs to score and Wofford led 5-3. The Terriers left one runner on base in the middle of the fourth inning.
 
After the Spartans were retired in order to end the fourth inning, 
Kody Ruedisili and 
McClain Bradley had back-to-back singles to start the fifth inning. With one out, Ruedisili moved to third on a wild pitch. On a fielder's choice bunt by 
Carson Waln, Ruedisili was out at home. A walk to 
Andrew Orzel loaded the bases with two outs, but a fielder's choice ended the top half.
 
The Spartans led off the bottom of the fifth with back-to-back walks. A double scored one runner, with the second runner thrown out at the plate. At the end of the fifth inning, the Spartans stranded a runner at third base trailing 5-4. Wofford had one runner reach on a walk in the sixth inning, but as caught stealing second. In the bottom of the sixth, the Spartans were retired in order.
 
Wofford started the seventh inning with a walk to 
Kody Ruedisili. 
McClain Bradley reached on an error and moved to second, but Ruedisili was out at home on the play. After a fly ball that moved Bradley to third, he scored on a wild pitch for a 6-4 lead. 
Carson Waln singled with two outs and stole second. A double by 
Andrew Orzel scored Waln for a 7-4 advantage.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, the Spartans led off with a walk. A strikeout, ground out and diving catch on a fly ball to centerfield ended the inning. 
Max McDougald singled to start the eighth inning and he advanced to third base on a pair of wild pitches. A single with two outs by 
Alex Malsch drove in McDougald for an 8-4 score. A single by 
Kody Ruedisili and a fielding error plated a run and Ruedisili ended up on third base. 
McClain Bradley reached on a fielder's choice and Ruedisili was safe at home on a throwing error for a 10-4 lead. The Spartans had a single to open the bottom of the eighth, but three straight batters were retired to end the frame.
 
The Terriers led off the ninth with a single from 
Carson Waln and he stole both second and third base. A sacrifice fly from 
Reed Massey gave Wofford an 11-4 advantage. With two outs, 
Max McDougald reached on an error and then 
Mack Nathanson cleared the fence in left field for his eighth home run of the season. In the middle of the ninth, Wofford had a 13-4 lead. A lead-off single for the Spartans was followed by the Terriers turning a double play. A ground out ended the game.
 
Wofford starter 
Adam Scott (4-3) worked six and a third innings. He allowed four runs on six hits and struck out four batters. 
Matt Ellmyer allowed two hits in the final 2.2 innings of the game to earn his second save of the season.
 
Bryce Hensley (5-4) was the Spartans starter and went four innings with five runs allowed on five hits, along with four strikeouts. Andrew Wantz threw 2.2 innings with two runs allowed on four hits and two strikeouts. Jack Maynard added 1.1 innings with three runs allowed on three hits. Michael Bates allowed three runs on two hits in the ninth with two strikeouts.
 
The Terriers were caught stealing in the top of the sixth inning, the first caught stealing since March 18 against Yale – a stretch of 40 straight stolen bases. 
Carson Waln set a new career high with three stolen bases.
 
Wofford and UNCG will continue the three-game Southern Conference series on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
