MACON, GA. – The Wofford women's tennis team fell, 5-2, in their regular season finale at Mercer on Friday afternoon.
 
The loss means the Terriers conclude their regular season with an 11-12 record, including a 1-6 mark in SoCon play.
 
The Bears got off to a fast start by taking two of three doubles matches to grab an early lead. Mercer's team of Christie Cesarini and Marie Mottet won their match, 6-0, at no. 3. Both the no. 1 and no. 2 doubles matches were closely contested, but the Bears clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win at no. 2 by Katie Sidor and Haley Powell. Even with the point lost, the Terriers claimed the match at no. 1 behind Kalli Karas and Cassidy Hicks, 6-4.
 
In singles competition, Mercer took the first three matches that were completed to clinch the match early. Mottet won at no. 4, 6-3, 6-3, over Lauren Reid. In the no. 1 slot, the Bears' Katia Slavroulaki also took her match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, to put Mercer within one point of clinching the victory.
 
Mercer clinched the match with Sidor's 7-5, 6-1 win at no. 3.
 
Powell took her match to give the Bears five straight wins to begin singles, although Taylor Carlson rallied back to force a third set after dropping the first. Powell ended up with a 3-6, 7-6 (), 1-0 (10-5) win.
 
The Terriers got on the board, as Hicks took the third set tiebreak after dropping the first set in a tiebreak. The sophomore from Ohio won 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-7).
 
The Terriers received their second win of the day, as Curran Carver outlasted Andrea Peteu 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) at no. 6. The win was Carver's 13^th of the season, which led the Terriers in the regular season.
 
Up next, the Terriers will compete in the Southern Conference Tournament next Friday, April 21. The first round will be played at the Reeves Tennis Center on Wofford's campus. Exact time and opponent are to be determined.
