BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Wofford volleyball team fell 3-1 at Samford on Saturday night. Samford won the first set 25-19 and the Terriers rebounded to win the second set 26-24, but the Bulldogs sealed the deal with 25-21 and 25-12 wins in the third and fourth sets, respectively.
With the loss, Wofford falls to 10-6 on the season and 1-2 in Southern Conference play, while Samford improves to 6-10 and 1-1 in conference action with the win.
Wofford hit .141 as a team in the match while allowing Samford to hit .272. The Bulldogs hit .378 in both the first and fourth sets and never hit below .151 in a set.
Colleen Reilly had an excellent outing. The junior led Wofford with a season high 15 kills and had just one error on 28 swings to finish with a .500 hitting percentage. The middle blocker also added six block assists in the loss.
Catie Cronister followed with 13 kills. The sophomore added 17 digs to record her team leading fourth double-double of the season.
Kara Shacklette finished with nine kills and hit .227 on the night. Setter
Lorissa King dished out 42 assists and added four digs and four assists.
Taylor Gill, playing in her home state of Alabama, tallied 14 digs, while
Madeline Savage had 10 to help the defensive effort.
Three Bulldogs finished with double digit kills, led by Krista Boesing with 20. Kelsi Hobbs added 15 kills without an error on 33 attempts and hit .455.
Wofford returns home to Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium for the next conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 27 against The Citadel (6-12, 1-1).
