Spartanburg, S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team tied 0-0 against VMI at home on Sunday afternoon after 110 minutes of play. Wofford generated multiple shot opportunities throughout the match but the Terriers could not find the game winner. The Terriers now move to 4-5-1 on the season and 0-1-1 in the SoCon.
VMI came out strong recording two shots on goal that required the attention of the Terrier keeper
Mayson Liner. Wofford then dominated for the next 20 minutes of play recording seven shots over a 18 minute span but the Terriers could not find the back of the net. VMI challenged
Mayson Liner again in the 41
st minute but she rose to the occasion and made the save to keep the game scoreless at the half.
The second half began with Wofford tallying two quick shots but the Keydet keeper was able to keep the Terriers of the scoreboard. Wofford's best chance of the half came when
Hayley Younginer ripped a shot off the crossbar from 36 yards out. Regular time ended with the game tied at zero as the game headed into overtime.
The Terriers had the best chance in the overtime period when
Catie Slater's shot rang the right goal post and stayed out of the net. Wofford and VMI played to a scoreless draw in the final five minutes of the match.
In the match, the Terriers totaled 25 shots and 12 shots on goal.
Katie Beuerlein led the Terriers with four shots on goal as
Eva Dailey recorded three shots on goal as well.
Mayson Liner recorded nine saves in the match and now moves to 2-1-1 on the season.
Wofford will return to the pitch on Friday, September 29 when the Terriers travel to Charleston to face The Citadel at 2 pm.
