Women's Soccer Downs The Citadel 4-0


Charleston, S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team won 4-0 at The Citadel on Friday afternoon, moving the Terriers to 5-5-1 on the season and 1-1-1 in the SoCon. The Terriers got the scoring started in the first minute of play and cruised to the 4-0 win.
 
Wofford opened the scoring just 30 seconds in the game when Hayley Younginer hooked up with Katie Beuerlein in the box and Beuerlein buried it in the back of the net for the early Wofford lead. The Terriers continued to apply pressure to the Bulldog back line throughout the first half of play. Wofford struck again in the 33rd minute when Hayley Younginer gathered a deflected pass and beat the keeper for her 17th goal of the season, sending the game into the half Wofford 2 – The Citadel 0.
 
The Terriers padded their lead late in the second half when Emma Fletched linked up with Katie Beuerlein who took one touch and buried the ball beyond the reach of the keeper for her second goal of the match. Wofford ended the scoring in the 84th minute when Katie Beuerlein rang the cross bar to just miss her third goal of the match, but Erin Wolfe cleaned up the mess for the Terriers to increase the lead to 4-0.
 
In the match the Terriers were outshot 14-12 and Mayson Liner was required to make 11 saves to pick up the clean sheet. Katie Beuerlein finished the match with five points, two goals and an assist. Hayley Younginer compiled three points, recording a goal and an assist. Younginer's goal was her 17th of the season which ties a Wofford record for most goals in a season. Erin Wolfe picked up her first career goal wearing the old black and gold.
 
Wofford will continue the conference schedule on Sunday when the Terriers travel to Macon, Georgia to face off against Mercer at 2 pm.
