Terriers Pick Up Comeback Win at Upstate

Spartanburg, S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team won 3-2 at USC Upstate on Friday night at the County University Soccer Stadium. The Spartans got the scoring started midway through the first half in the 22nd minute but a second half comeback was topped off when Catie Slater scored for the Terriers in the 87th minute to secure the second straight win for Wofford.

"I was so impressed with the fight in our team tonight. We let up those goals early in the game but we never stopped playing," Head Coach Amy Kiah said. "The team fought as a unit to make the comeback and Catie Slater, one of our best finishers got it done in the crucial moment."

After 21 scoreless minutes, Upstate struck first on the goal from Kate Winegardner and the assist from Abbie Ellis. Just four minutes later, Abbie Ellis scored a goal of her own thanks to the assist from Jada Kinlaw to increase the lead to 2-0.

The Terriers got on the board in the 68th minute when Hayley Younginer scored her ninth goal of the season to pull Wofford within one. Just over a minute later Katie Beuerlein scored her second goal of the season to tie the game.

Over 20 minutes later Catie Slater buried the game winner from outside the penalty area in the 87th minute of the game.

In the game the Terriers outshot the Spartans 17-12 and totaled three corner kicks. Hayley Younginer adds three more points to her season total with her ninth goal and first assist of the year. Catie Slater and Katie Beuerlein both scored their second goals of the season. Mayson Liner totaled five saves in her second win of the season.

The Terriers will break for a week and return to the pitch on Friday, September 15, when the team travels to Charleston Southern.
