SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's basketball team outscored Western Carolina by 10 points in the second half and the effort propelled the Terriers past the Catamounts 77-68 on Monday evening in Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.
With the win, Wofford improves to 16-6 on the season and 7-2 in Southern Conference action, while Western Carolina drops to 9-13 overall and 4-5 in conference play. Wofford has won nine in a row over Western Carolina at home as the Catamounts last came away with a victory in the Hub City on Dec. 15, 2003.

Four Terriers finished in double-digits led by
Fletcher Magee with 18. Despite having just three points at the half, the conference leader in points per game rallied to lead all players in scoring. Magee made four threes in the game and went over 300 career threes in the game. He moved past former Terrier Ian Chadwick (1997-2001) for fifth place in Southern Conference history for threes made in a career. Magee needs just two to hit the 100 mark for the season and will be Wofford's first player to repeat with back-to-back seasons of 100+ threes, as he was the first to accomplish the feat last season.

Nathan Hoover and
Trevor Stumpe each scored 17 in the win. Both went 6-12 from the field.
Matthew Pegram scored 14 points, his most since he scored 14 against Coastal Carolina on Nov. 29. The junior from Mt. Pleasant went 6-9 from the floor. For the second game in a row and eighth time this season,
Derrick Brooks led the team in rebounds. Wofford's lone senior finished with eight rebounds, five of which came on the defensive rebounds. Brooks, Stumpe and freshman point guard
Storm Murphy all had four assists.

The Terriers led for over 13 minutes in the first half, but Western took over in the final five minutes to take a 34-33 lead into the half. Wofford got on the board first on two made free throws by
Matthew Pegram, The Terriers went up six when
Nathan Hoover converted a three point play to make it 12-6. Western Carolina pulled within two points, 13-11, but threes by Stumpe and Hoover on back-to-back possessions quickly pushed it back to six. The Catamounts answered with back-to-back threes of their own to tie it at 19. Wofford used an 8-3 run to jump out in front 27-22 with 6:17 to go, but then cooled off as the Catamounts heated up and finished the half on a 12-6 run.

The Catamounts held on to the lead until a free throw by
Donovan Theme-Love put the Terriers in front 53-52 with 9 minutes to go in the game. Western's Mark Gosselin answered with a layup, but then Hoover nailed a three on the next possession to put the Terriers back out in front for good.

Wofford shot just 25% from three in the first half, while Western Carolina shot 50%. Wofford, however, did have eight assists on 12 makes. The Terriers shot a much improved 51.6% in the second half and totaled a percentage of 43.1. Wofford finished with 21 assists, the most for the Terriers since totaling 25 in the win over Johnson & Wales on Dec. 9. All 10 players that saw action scored in the win.

After seven homes games in January, Wofford hits the road for the first two in February. First up, the Terriers head to Charleston to face The Citadel on Thursday, Feb. 1. Then, Wofford plays at Mercer on Saturday, Feb. 3. Wofford's next home game is Feb. 7 against Samford.Â
