SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's basketball team won 58-46 over Samford on Saturday afternoon. Wofford got contributions up and down the roster in a game that the Terriers led for nearly 28 minutes. Some clutch free throws out of Da'Ja Green and
Emily Ryan down the stretch clinched the win for the Terriers. With the win Wofford moves to 7-9 on the season and 1-1 in the conference. The win is Wofford's first over Samford since February 6, 2012 and just the third win all time over the Bulldogs.

It was a slow start to the second SoCon game for both teams as Wofford led 11-9 after one period of play. The Terriers and Bulldogs shot identical percentages from the floor in the first quarter as both teams were 4-15 (26%) from the field. The Terriers had four different players record a basket in the quarter in
Kelsey Lambdin,
Cairo Booker,
Emily Ryan and A.C. Atha.
Both teams continued to struggle offensively in the second quarter but Wofford shot 3-4 from downtown to help extend their lead to 25-20 at the halftime break.
Kelsey Lambdin knocked down two triples in the quarter to give her nine points at the break. The Terriers took great care of the ball in the first two periods as Wofford turned it over just four times in the first 20 minutes while forcing Samford into seven turnovers.

The intensity picked up in the third quarter as both teams picked up the defensive pressure. Samford outscored the Terriers 15-14 after shooting 6-14 (42%) from the floor while holding Wofford to 3-14 (21%) from the floor. Despite the run from Samford, Wofford continued to lead after three periods of play, 39-35.

Wofford opened the fourth quarter with a jumper from Da'Ja Green to increase the lead to 41-35. After the early bucket, both teams went ice cold as the Terriers and Bulldogs played a scoreless three minutes prior to a Samford timeout at the 6:21 mark. Samford got a bucket out of the time out to cut Wofford's lead to four with just over six minutes to play in the game. Wofford then went on a 9-6 run to stretch the lead out to seven with 1:23 to play. With time running out Samford began to foul the Terriers and Wofford hit five clutch free throws in a row to ice the game.

In the win Wofford shot just 16-54 (29%) from the floor but 6-14 (42%) from downtown. The Terriers forced the Bulldogs into 17 turnovers as Wofford turned it over just six teams as a team. Da'Ja Green (13),
Kelsey Lambdin (12) and
Cairo Booker (11) all reached double figures to lead the Terriers. Green also added five assists and five rebounds while
Marissa Bayer grabbed nine boards to lead the team.

The Terriers will return to the floor on Thursday, January 11 when Wofford travels to face UNCG at 7 P.M. in Greensboro, N.C.
