SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team fell 3-0 against Mercer on Friday night at Snyder Field, as two goals in the first half would force the Terriers to play from behind for the duration of the match. The loss drops Wofford to 1-6 in SoCon play and 3-11-1 overall on the season.

The Bears found their first goal in the fifth minute of play, as Mercer's Payton Schurr followed up on a header off a corner kick from about 8-yards out to give the Bears the 1-0 lead. Mercer went on to extend their lead just six minutes later, firing a shot from inside the box to push the score to 2-0. The Terriers weren't allowed many chances to strike in the first half, though, Wofford found efforts on shots from
Catie Slater,
Emma Fletcher, and
Dani Segovia throughout the period.
Maria Mon would corral three saves to play out the first half, keeping the score at 2-0 heading into the intermission.

The Terriers came out the half livelier, finding consecutive shots on goal from
Hayley Younginer,
Catie Slater, and
Emma Fletcher that were subsequently saved by Mercer's keeper.
Maria Mon was able to hold off the Bears attack, with four saves throughout the following 20 minutes, until Mercer's Itzy Sanchez-Gracia would break the silence in the 63
rd minute, rocketing a shot bar down into goal to cap the Bears' scoring for the night. The Terriers would find scoring opportunities from Younginer and
Savannah Vathy going forward, however, collective efforts from Mercer keepers Jordyn Ebert and Leah Cochran would fend off both shots to ultimately give Mercer the 3-0 win at the end of regulation.

Catie Slater paced the Terriers with four shots on the night, two of which that were on goal, while
Hayley Younginer followed behind with three shots of her own. Additionally,
Emma Fletcher took two shots and
Dani Segovia,
Savannah Vathy, and
Erin Wolfe took one shot apiece.

Despite the loss,
Maria Mon finished the match with eight saves.

Next, the Terriers will host The Citadel on senior day for a 2 p.m. conference matchup on Sunday, October 14.
