MOBILE, Ala. -
Walker Simas tied for seventh place as the Wofford men's golf team completed action at the Steelwood Collegiate on Sunday.
The Terriers finished tied for 11th place, sandwiching a pair of 309's with a round-two 285. Wake Forest dominated the field, winning the tournament by shooting 20-under-par (844). Mississippi State, which finished second overall, finished with a 4-under par 860.
"We had a really up and down tournament as a team," said head coach
Alex Hamilton. Our good golf lets us compete with very good teams, but we must find a way to be more consistent over 54 holes."
Simas, a junior from Charlotte, North Carolina, produced his second consecutive strong showing, opening up with a round-one 75 on Saturday. Simas' second round vaulted him up the leaderboard, posting a 3-under par 69, before capping off the tournament by shooting even par on Sunday.
"Walker (Simas) once again played well," Hamilton said. "He has been very solid for us this fall."
Freshman
Walker Jones finished tied for 28th overall. Like Simas, Jones' best round was his second on Saturday, firing a 71 to finish 11-over-par for the tournament.
Stuart Fuller also posted a second-round 71, finishing with a 16-over-par 232.
Matthew Copeland and
Nick Willis each shot respectable second rounds. Copeland posted a 75 while Willis totaled 74.
Sunday marks the last competition of the fall for Wofford, returning to action at the Wexford Intercollegiate in February.
"I look forward to seeing what improvement we can make going into the spring semester," said Hamilton.
