CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Wofford volleyball team fell to Western Carolina (17-25, 23-25, 25-19, 19-25) in four sets on Saturday night.
Colleen Reilly continued to be a force offensively, leading the Terriers with 14 kills in the match.
Catie Cronister (13) and
Riley Coonan (10) each recorded double digit kills, while
Lorissa King dished out 27 assists and
Taylor Gill totaled 19 digs.
Western Carolina jumped all over the Terriers to start the match, gaining a 12-3 lead, looking to cruise to a set one victory. Wofford began to close the gap, making the score 19-15 after an
Alex Holland kill.
The Catamounts responded with a kill of their own to take the momentum back and earn the 25-17 victory. The Terriers took an 8-3 lead to start set two as they looked to even the match at one set apiece. Western Carolina rallied back however, taking set two by a pair of points after a kill and attack error.
The two sides traded points in the third, with Wofford holding a 15-14 lead. The Terriers would reel off four points in a row to take control of the set, capping it off with a
Riley Coonan kill to force a fourth set.
Trailing 23-17 in the fourth, the Catamounts committed an error
Catie Cronister sent home a kill to make the score 23-19 before a pair of errors did the Terriers in, giving Western Carolina the set and the match.
Wofford now falls to 9-10 on the season, but returns to the court on Wednesday, hosting the Furman Paladins at 6 p.m.
