THE MATCHUP:Â Wofford is back on the road this week as they face Samford in Birmingham in a key Southern Conference contest ... Wofford began the 2018 season with a 28-21 win over The Citadel, marking
Josh Conklin's first win as head coach ... The Terriers beat VMI, but were defeated 17-14 at Wyoming ... Wofford returned after the bye week with a win at Gardner-Webb and added a 21-10 win at Chattanooga ... After a 34-14 loss at Furman, the Terriers rebounded with a 30-17 win over ETSU and a 42-21 win over Mercer to move to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the SoCon ... Samford is 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the Southern Conference, with league wins over Western Carolin, VMI and Furman along with losses to Mercer and Chattanooga ... They also have a win over Shorter and losses to Florida State and Kennesaw State ... The Bulldogs were 8-4 last season and 6-2 in the SoCon to finish tied for second place ... They went to the NCAA FCS Playoffs as an at-large team and lost in the first round to Kennesaw State ... In 2017 the Bulldogs handed Wofford a 24-21 loss in Spartanburg and have won five of the last six games in the series ... Wofford is ninth in the STATS FCS poll and eighth in the FCS Coaches poll, while Samford is receiving votes in the STATS FCS poll.
