SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Monday, the Southern Conference Football Players of the Week presented by Southern Recognition were awarded for all games played so far this season. Wofford defensive back
Eli Campbell was named Defensive Player of the Week, and he was also named the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week.
Campbell, a senior from Sanford, Florida, had two interceptions and a fumble recovery to help Wofford post its first shutout win since 2016, 16-0 at Elon. Each takeaway occurred in Elon territory, including a 35-yard interception return to the 4 to set up his Southern Conference squad for a second-quarter field goal. He also had seven tackles, with five of them limiting the Phoenix to four yards or less.
This is the first SoCon player of the week honor for Campbell and the third honor for the Terriers this season.
Campbell was also selected as the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week for Week 6 college football games. He is the first Terrier to be named a National Player of the Week since 2021 (Atkins Roberts).
Mercer quarterback P.J. Pickles was the Offensive Player of the Week and Chattanooga kicker Jude Kelley was named the Special Teams Player of the Week. The awards are selected by the league office.
Wofford will be on the road for the next two games at Kent State and at Chattanooga before returning home on September 26 to host SoCon newcomer Tennessee Tech. Tickets are available by visiting
