Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Wofford rolls past Coppin State

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Wofford men's basketball team cruised to victory on Wednesday night, defeating Coppin State 99-65. Senior forward Cameron Jackson led all scorers with 20 points, while Tray Hollowell and Chevez Goodwin each set career-highs for points scored, totaling 13 and 11, respectively.

"I thought Cameron (Jackson) was terrific," head coach Mike Young said. "Tray (Hollowell) was outstanding. I feel good about the performance of our team tonight."

Wofford filled up the stat sheet, shooting 52.2% from the floor and 51.9% from 3-point range. The Terriers, led by Fletcher Magee's 7-for-7 effort, were 13-for-16 from the free throw line, dishing out 23 assists and forcing 10 turnovers.

"Our assists aren't where they need to be on the season, but those numbers tonight are Wofford numbers," said Young.

Wofford improves to 3-2, returning to the court on Friday when they host Mars Hill at 1 p.m.

The Terriers wasted no time taking control of the game, going ahead 5-4 two minutes into the contest and never looked back. Leading 13-5, Jackson drilled just the second 3-pointer of his career to give Wofford a 11-point advantage. Jackson was a force down low, scoring six points in a row and drawing a charge to extend the Terriers' lead to 32-14. With time winding down in the first, Jackson found himself at the top of the key with the shot clock running low and drilled a step-back 3-pointer to give Wofford a commanding 40-21 advantage.

The Terriers went to their bench a lot in the second half, as the reserves totaled a season-high 30 points as a unit. Hollowell exploded for the best half of his career in the second 20 minutes, scoring 13 points in just over 12 minutes of play. Goodwin, who totaled 11 points and six rebounds, scored seven points and grabbed five boards in the second half of play.

"I had a really good shootaround," Hollowell said. "But I just tried to do what I do every game, and that's come in and do my job and help the team win. I made a couple shots, got my teammates involved and stole a couple rebounds from the bigs."

In addition to Hollowell and Goodwin recording career-highs in points scored, sophomore forward Keve Aluma tied his career high of 10 rebounds, adding a blocked shot and a steal and a pair of free throws.

"We're looking forward to the best meal of the year after practice tomorrow," Young said. "And then we'll be back at it on Friday."
