GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Wofford volleyball team finished its 2018 regular season on Friday, falling to UNCG. UNCG, which serves as the host site for the 2018 SoCon Championship, defeated Wofford 25-22, 26-24, 22-25, 25-18.
Catie Cronister and
Colleen Reilly each recorded double-digit kills, with 12 and 10, respectively, while Cronister added a match-high 13 digs.
UNCG aimed to pull away early in the first, holding a 13-10 lead, but a 5-0 run by the Terriers flipped the momentum. The Spartans would counter however, scoring six unanswered to hold a 23-19 advantage, closing out the set via a kill.
UNCG carried the momentum into the second set, taking a 9-3 lead. Wofford mounted a furious comeback, taking 9 of 11 points to make the score 20-18 in favor of the Terriers. The Spartans prevailed down the stretch once again, taking a 24-23 lead and finishing off set two with a Emily Keilen kill.
As Wofford battled to force a fourth set, the teams traded points until midway through the third when UNCG pulled out to a five point lead. The Terriers responded by ripping off seven points in a row to take a 19-17 lead. Despite the best effort of the Spartans, Wofford never relinquished its lead to force another set.
UNCG took control early in the fourth, taking a 12-4 lead. The Terriers would attempt to claw back, but would never draw closer than five, falling 25-18.
Wofford finishes the regular season 14-15 overall (7-9 SoCon) and awaits its seed in the Socon tournament which will be revealed tomorrow.
