Chloe Wanink and Jamari McDavid would knock down jumpers at the top of the key for Wofford, though, N.C. Central responded with a pair of scores to give the Eagles an 8-4 advantage. A layup and pair of free throws from McDavid and Da'Ja Green respectively would knot the score up, as Wofford would go on a 10-8 run, capped by a Jackie Carman layup, to take its first lead of the day at the end of the first, 17-16.Â
Wofford made the score 19-16, behind Cairo Booker free throws, before N.C. Central would answer with a 3-pointer to tie the score up at the 7:32 mark. After several trips up and down the floor, an 8-2 run by the Eagles, would soon regain the lead, 27-23, forcing a Wofford timeout with 1:46 left in the half. Coming out the timeout, Elena Pulanco saw her first minutes of action, finding Marissa Bayer for a lay-in to eventually send the score at 27-25 heading into the intermission.Â
A finish from Bayer along with consecutive Cairo Booker scores would take back the lead, 31-29, to start the half. N.C. Central's Rodneysha Martin would come alive, scoring seven points to push a 10-0 run, though, a Chloe Wanink three would cut the deficit to five, 39-34. The Terriers saw scores from Jamie Grob, MaryMartha Turner, and Wanink, however, N.C. Central kept a balanced attack throughout the frame, seeing its largest lead of the day, 52-40, at the end of the period.Â
Wofford gained momentum to start the fourth quarter, creating a 7-0 run on layups from Wanink and Jamari McDavid to make the score 52-47. Martin would answer with a layup to pace the Eagles, as both teams traded baskets over a four-minute span. Wofford would force four straight turnovers, as three consecutive scores from McDavid cut the deficit to three (60-57)Â before a N.C. Central layup would answer, making the score 62-57 with 1:24 left. With time running out, the Terriers would force N.C. Central to earn their points from the charity stripe, though, the Eagles would go a perfect 4-for-4 to earn the 66-59 win at the end of regulation.Â
