Women's Basketball Falls at Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, TN. – The Wofford women's basketball team fell 76-46 at Chattanooga on Saturday afternoon. After sticking with the Mocs in the first ten minutes of play, Wofford's shooting struggles (31% FG) allowed Chattanooga to cruise to victory over the final three quarters. The loss is Wofford's sixth straight and moves the Terriers to 10-18 overall and 3-10 in the SoCon.

The Terriers traded buckets with the Mocs over the first three minutes of the game as Chattanooga held an early 7-6 lead. Chattanooga then went on an 11-7 run thanks to two three pointers for Lakelyn Bouldin and one deep shot for Brooke Burns. Wofford continued to hang tough in the quarter thanks to a solid performance from Marissa Bayer who recorded four points and four rebounds.

Chattanooga increased the defensive intensity in the second quarter holding the Terriers scoreless for nearly three full minutes. After extending the lead to 23-13 at the 7:02 mark, Chattanooga saw Wofford rip off a 9-2 run cutting the deficit to three with over four minutes to play in the half. Aryana Gilbert then came up clutch for the Mocs scoring five straight points before time expired to stretch the halftime lead to 32-22. As a team, the Terriers shot just 6-26 (23%) in the first half while Chattanooga went 12-27 (44%) from the floor.

Wofford struggled again to start the third quarter, being outscored 15-2 in the first five and a half minutes of the period. The Mocs stayed hot in the second half going 17-30 (56%) from the floor while knocking down six shots from downtown. Despite solid shooting from Wofford in the second half (9-22, 40%), the Terriers could not slow down the Mocs who cruised to the victory in the final quarter.

In the loss, guards Da'Ja Green (14) and Cairo Booker (10) eclipsed double-figure scoring while Marissa Bayer recorded eight points, 10 rebounds and two assists.

Wofford will end the regular season on February 24th when the team travels to Greenville to face off against Furman at 2 PM. The Terriers will then play in the Southern Conference tournament beginning on March 1st with a time to be announced.
