SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Friday afternoon, the Wofford College baseball team picked up a 16-2 win over Xavier at Russell C. King Field. The Terriers took the lead in the second inning on a grand slam by
Mack Nathanson and a grand slam by
Cody Miller in the fifth inning gave Wofford a 14-2 lead on the way to the win.

Wofford opens the season 2-3, while Xavier is 1-4.
McClain Bradley led the Terriers with three hits, while
Mack Nathanson,
Cody Miller and
Brett Rodriguez had four RBIs each.
Adam Scott earned the win with 12 strikeouts in six innings. Blaine Griffiths had a two-run homer for the Musketeers in the second inning.

Xavier was retired in order in the top of the first inning. Wofford had a walk by
McClain Bradley and a single from
Mack Nathanson with one out in the bottom of the first.
Max McDougald walked with two outs to load the bases, but a fly ball ended the opening inning. With two outs in the top of the second, a single was followed by a Blaine Griffiths home run to left center for a 2-0 lead. The Terriers had a single by
Andrew Orzel and a walk to
Alex Malsch.
McClain Bradley was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs.
Mack Nathanson cleared the bases with a shot to left center for a 4-2 advantage. It was his second home run this season and 23
rd of his career.

The Musketeers left one runner on base in the top of the third inning after a walk.
Colin Davis singled with one out in the bottom of the third and with two outs
Alex Malsch reached on an error. A double by
Brett Rodriguez drove in two runs for a 6-2 lead. A single up the middle by
McClain Bradley scored Rodriguez and Wofford had a 7-2 advantage after three innings. Xavier doubled to lead off the fourth inning, but the next three batters were retired. The Terriers went in order to end the fourth inning.

In the top of the fifth, Xavier was retired in order.
Colin Davis doubled to left center to open the bottom of the fifth and
Andrew Orzel followed by being hit by a pitch. A bunt single by
Alex Malsch loaded the bases. An RBI single by
Brett Rodriguez and a single by
McClain Bradley drove in two runs for a 10-2 lead.
Mack Nathanson was hit by a pitch to load the bases again and a grand slam by
Cody Miller pushed the lead to 14-2. It was his first home run of the season and 16
th of his career. Â

After Xavier struck out in order in the top of the sixth, Wofford went in order. The Musketeers left one runner on base in the top of the seventh after a walk.
McClain Bradley led off the bottom of the seventh with a single. With one out, Bradley scored on a sacrifice fly by
Max McDougald to make it a 15-2 score. The Terriers left two on base at the end of the seventh inning and the Musketeers stranded one in the top of the eighth.
Andrew Orzel and
Alex Malsch had back-to-back singles to open the bottom of the eighth. A sacrifice fly by
Brett Rodriguez gave Wofford a 16-2 lead. Xavier was retired in order to end the game in the ninth.

Adam Scott (1-1) started for the Terriers and went six innings with two runs allowed on three hits. He had 12 strikeouts in the game, giving him 271 in his career and moving into fourth in school history. It was his fifth career game with 10+ strikeouts.
Ty Reginelli did not allow a hit and had one strikeout in his first career pitching appearance.
Thomas Tatham worked an inning without allowing a hit.
David Ehmen did not allow a hit in the ninth.

Xavier pitcher Nick Zwack (0-2) threw three innings with seven runs allowed on six hits. He struck out one batter and walked four. Sean Douaire went two innings with seven runs allowed on five hits, along with one strikeout. Christian Glass went the final three innings with two runs allowed on two hits with two strikeouts.
