SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Despite outscoring Presbyterian College 6-4 in the second half of play, the Wofford women's lacrosse team fell 14-12 to the Blue Hose on Saturday afternoon in Gibbs Stadium. With the loss, Wofford falls to 0-2 on the season, while Presbyterian improves to 1-2.

Seven Terriers contributed to Wofford's 12 goals, led by Paige Sedlar with three. Sophie Smith, Hannah Mutch and Delaney Irwin each had two goals, while JoJo Franklin, Ava Alvarez and Hannah Wurzel added one apiece. Mutch and Smith tallied two assists each and Franklin and junior Jessica Borucki added one.

Smith scored the first goal of the game two minutes in, giving the Terriers a 1-0 lead. The Blue Hose got on the board less than a minute later off a goal by Cady Roberts. Wurzel, a freshman, scored her first career goal at 26:21 off Mutch's fourth assist of the season, then Delaney Irwin followed with a goal on a free position attempt and ran Wofford's lead to 3-1.

Down 3-1, Presbyterian rallied to score the next six goals and took a 9-3 lead. Paige Sedlar stopped the Blue Hose run and started a 3-0 run for Wofford on a pass from Smith with 12:19 left in the half. The goal was the first of Sedlar's career. Franklin, a junior, netted her third career goal to cut PC's lead to 9-5 and a few minutes later Alvarez scored her second of the season when Wofford was a man up, cutting the lead to 9-6. Claire Fraise scored on a free position attempt for Presbyterian with 29 seconds left in the half and the Blue Hose led 10-6 at the break.

Irwin tacked on her second goal of the game four minutes into the second half and Wofford began to chip away at the PC lead. Mutch followed with a goal shortly after on Smith's second assist of the game and the Terriers pulled within two, 10-8. The Blue Hose answered with a goal before Wofford rallied off three straight goals from Smith and Sedlar (2) and tied the game at 11. Presbyterian responded, scoring three consecutive, and went up 14-11 with just over a minute left. Mutch added a goal, unassisted, with 14 seconds left but PC held on for the 14-12 victory.

Kelsey Thompson (0-2) suffered the loss, though the freshman had 12 saves, three more that PC's Kayla Koch.
