BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – On a cold and windy Wednesday night, the Wofford College baseball team picked up a 7-4 win over Gardner-Webb at Moss Stadium. With the game tied at four after four innings, Gardner-Webb took a one run lead in the fifth inning. Wofford scored twice in the sixth inning and twice in the seventh inning and held the Runnin' Bulldogs scoreless in the final four frames for the win.

Wofford is now 15-7 on the season, while Gardner-Webb is 13-10 overall. The two teams split the midweek series, with each earning a road win. The Terriers had seven hits in the game, led by
Alec Cargin with two.
Colin Davis scored three runs and drove in two. Chris Clary led Gardner-Webb with two hits.

The Terriers had runners on the corners with one out after a pair of singles by
McClain Bradley and
Mack Nathanson. On a strikeout, a double steal saw Bradley cross the plate for a 1-0 lead. The Runnin' Bulldogs were retired in order on three straight ground outs to end the first inning.

Colin Davis led off the second with a walk and he moved to second on a sacrifice fly. A single by
Alec Cargin drove in Davis for a 2-0 advantage but the Terriers left one on base to end the top half. Gardner-Webb had the bases loaded after a pair of walks and a hit by pitch. A ground ball for the second out scored one run for a 2-1 score and two runners were left on base after a ground out. Wofford was retired in order in the top of the third inning.

Gardner-Webb led off the bottom of the third with a single. With two outs, an RBI double tied the game at 2-2. An RBI single gave the Runnin' Bulldogs a 3-2 lead. With one out in the top of the fourth,
Colin Davis cleared the fence in left field to make it a 3-3 game. It was his second career home run.
Max McDougald followed with a single, but was stranded at second. The Runnin' Bulldogs had a single with two outs in the bottom of the fourth and the runner was left on second to end the inning.

Wofford left one runner on base in the top of the fifth and Gardner-Webb led off the bottom of the fifth with a single. An RBI double put the Runnin' Bulldogs back in the lead at 4-3, but the next three batters were retired to end the fifth inning.
Andrew Orzel led off the sixth inning with a single and
Colin Davis followed with a walk. A sacrifice bunt advanced the runners and a wild pitch tied the game at 4-4. A double by
Alec Cargin drove in Davis and Wofford had a 5-4 advantage.

The Runnin' Bulldogs left one runner on base in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out in the top of the seventh,
Mack Nathanson,
Cody Miller and
Andrew Orzel walked to load the bases. A sacrifice fly by
Colin Davis added a run and a balk advanced the runners for a 7-4 lead and at the end of the top half Wofford left two runners in scoring position. The first two batters in the bottom of the seventh for Gardner-Webb walked. After a pair of strikeouts, a fly ball ended the inning.

Alex Malsch walked to begin the eighth inning, but a double play and strikeout ended the top half. The Runnin' Bulldogs had a hit with two outs, but stranded the runner. Wofford went in order in the top of the ninth. The lead-off batter for Gardner-Webb walked.

Clay Schwaner started for the Terriers and went 4.0 innings with three runs allowed on four hits, along with one strikeout.
Matt Ellmyer (4-0) added two innings with one run allowed on three hits and three strikeouts.
Grant Byers walked two batters in a third of an inning.
Anthony Garcia went 1.2 innings with one hit allowed and two strikeouts.
Adam Scott had one walk and three strikeouts in the ninth inning for his second save. He has 48 strikeouts this season and reach 300 for his career.

Gardner-Webb starting pitcher Mason Fox (2-2) threw 6.0 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits, while striking out four. Langdon Wilson went two-thirds of an inning with two runs allowed on four walks. Aaron Stewart did not allow a hit in 1.1 innings with one strikeout. Will Sellers had one strikeout in the ninth inning.

Wofford begins conference play at Mercer on Friday at 6:00 p.m., with the series continuing on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
