Lacrosse Falls to Stetson Thursday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's lacrosse team fell 22-2 to Stetson on Thursday afternoon in Gibbs Stadium. Wofford falls to 0-9 on the season while Stetson improves to 2-7 on the year.

Stetson won the first seven draw controls of the game quickly scored seven goals on the offensive attack. Wofford called timeout trailing 7-0 with 18:39 left in the half, and Delaney Irwin won the draw control when play resumed. The Hatters scored the next five goals and ran the lead to 12-0 over the next six minutes of play. With 10:14 left in the half, freshman Emily Elstun netted her first career goal on a free position shot and got the Terriers on the board.

The Hatters responded with a goal from Karli Maguire to keep the lead at 12. JoJo Franklin followed with her eighth goal of the season with 2:21 left, also on a free position attempt. The Hatters got a goal from Rachel Valocchi with 18 seconds left and the goal gave Stetson a 14-2 advantage at the half.

The Hatters tacked on eight goals in the second half to keep Wofford at bay and run away with the win.

The Hatters outshot the Terriers 36-7, won 19 draw controls to Wofford's six and converted on 3-5 free position shots. Stetson was a perfect nine for nine on clear attempts and Wofford finished 7-13. The Terriers finished 2-3 from the free position line.

Kelsey Thompson recorded seven saves in 60 minutes in goal.

The game was the second of three consecutive home games for the Terriers. Wofford hosts Jacksonville at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 31 before hitting the road to Kennesaw State and beginning SoCon play at Mercer.
