BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Wofford volleyball team dropped its road contest to Samford (22-25, 25-20, 17-25, 10-25).
Colleen Reilly and
Catie Cronister each recorded 12 kills, while
Noa Miller dished out 30 assists and
Taylor Gill totaled 22 digs in the match.
With the score tied at 17-17, Samford began to pull away after scoring three points in a row. Wofford would cut the deficit to just one when Kara Shacklette sent home a kill to make the score 23-22, but the Bulldogs stopped the momentum with a kill of their own before taking the first set 25-22.
Looking to draw even, Wofford took an lead early in the second but struggled to pull away from Samford. Like the first set, the score was knotted up at 17-17, but it was the Terriers' turn to take control, making the score 20-17 before finishing the set with a pair of kills to make the match even at one set apiece.
The two sides matched each other point-for-point to open up the third set. With the score even at 11-11, Samford slowly extended the lead to take a 2-1 advantage in the match.
The Bulldogs took all their momentum into the fourth set, controlling it from the top and taking the contest three sets to one.
Wofford now falls to 7-8 and returns to the court on Friday, hosting The Citadel at 7 p.m.
