Spartanburg, S.C. - The Wofford volleyball team picked up its first conference win of the 2018 season on Friday, defeating The Citadel in four sets (22-25, 25-12, 25-20, 25-14) at Jerry Richardson Indoor stadium.
Three Terriers registered double-digit kills, including
Bijonae Jones who led the way with 14.
Catie Cronister, who had 12 kills herself, had a team-high five service aces while
Noa Miller racked up 22 assists in the victory.
The Citadel took a 2-1 lead in the opening set and would never trail. Wofford rallied to tie the set at 10-10, but the Bulldogs then scored four points in a row to take control of the set. The Terriers responded in a big way in the second set, blitzing The Citadel to the tune of 10-4, cruising to the set victory.
The Bulldogs opened the pivotal third set by scoring the first four points before
Colleen Reilly and Cronister recorded a pair of kills to get Wofford going offensively. Trailing 8-6, the Terriers scored eight unanswered to take a 14-8 lead. From this point on, Wofford fended off every Citadel charge, taking a 2-1 set advantage.
Jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth, Wofford never looked back, maintaining the lead for the entirety of the set. A Jones kill and Bulldog error capped off the match, improving the Terriers' SoCon record to 1-2 on the young season.
Wofford returns to the court on Saturday, hosting another SoCon foe in Mercer at 4 p.m.
