CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Terriers brought the game within one point with just under two minutes left, but unfortunately came up short as the Chattanooga Mocs held on for a 89-82 win at McKenzie Arena on Thursday afternoon. The loss drops Wofford to 10-8 and 2-1 in conference, while Chattanooga moves to 7-10 and 2-0.Â

Wofford shot 31-for-70 (44.3%) from the field and 6-for-17 (35.3%) from beyond the arc in the contest. The Terriers also went 14-for-17 (82.4%) from the charity stripe.Â

Four Terriers scored in double figures, as sophomore
Jamari McDavid and redshirt-junior
Chloe Wanink both led Wofford with 18 points apiece. McDavid pulled down nine rebounds along with an assist and steal, while Wanink grabbed five rebounds and dished one assist.Â

Cairo Booker finished with 16 points, on 6-of-14 shooting, four rebounds and three assists, while sophomore
Da'Ja Green rounds out the double-figure scorers for Wofford with a season-high 13 points, five rebounds, and five assists. The Terriers also received solid efforts from freshmen
Alexis Tomlin (seven points, four rebounds) and
Niyah Lutz (six points, two rebounds, two assists). Â

Wofford would start the game with a 7-2 advantage, behind a
Da'Ja Green layup and five points from
Cairo Booker, before the Mocs would go on a 7-0 run, taking a 9-7 lead by the first media timeout (4:24). A Chattanooga lay-in and Lakelyn Bouldin three would extend their lead to seven, 14-7, though,
Chloe Wanink would answer with back-to-back jumpers to cut the deficit to three (14-11). Bouldin would score the next six points for the Mocs, with 12 first quarter points, as Wofford answered with a Wanink three and
Alexis Tomlin layup, though, a Chattanooga three at the buzzer would extend the lead to six, 23-16, at the end of the first.

The Terriers would climb back, behind scores from
Niyah Lutz,
Jamari McDavid,
Marissa Bayer, and
Cairo Booker, to cut the Mocs' lead to one (27-26) by the 4:36 mark. A pair of free throws from Green and Booker gave the Terriers its first lead, 30-29, since the opening score, though, a Mocs layup would reclaim a one-point lead shortly after. Both teams went on to exchange buckets, as Chattanooga would net 12 of the last 21 points to hold a four-point advantage at the half, 43-39. Â

Wofford went 16-for-31 (51.6%) from the floor in the half, as
Cairo Booker led the way with 11 first half points. Free throws were key for the Terriers, as they went 5-for-6 from the line to keep them in the game. Chattanooga went 19-for-40 (47.5%) in the first half, shooting 50 percent (5-10 3FG) from 3-point range, as Bouldin and Eboni Williams led the Mocs in double figures with 12 and 11 first half points respectively. The Mocs also held the edge in rebounds over Wofford, 21-16.Â

The Terriers and Mocs went on to trade baskets throughout the third, as scores from Wanink and McDavid would make the score 53-49 in Chattanooga's favor by the first media timeout at 4:40. Both teams scored with persistence, though, the Mocs would convert 15 of the next 25 points to hold a 59-68 lead with 1:48 left. Bouldin went on to answer a
Da'Ja Green trey ball (71-62), though,
Cairo Booker responded with her own 3-pointer to cut the margin to six, 71-65, by the end of the third.

The Mocs went on to take their largest lead of the day, 75-65, to start the fourth quarter. Wanink free throws would then spark a 10-4 run, behind scores from McDavid, Green, and Booker, to bring the game within two points, 77-75, with 5:47 left. The Mocs extended their lead to five points, though, a Wanink three and McDavid free throw brought the score within one, 83-82, with 1:32 left. However, Chattanooga's Lakelyn Bouldin would come down and score two crucial layups, in addition to a pair of free throws, as the Mocs would push a seven-point lead with nine seconds left to secure the 89-82 win at the end of regulation.Â

Chattanooga connected on 10-of-22 (45.5%) 3-pointers in the contest, while shooting 35-for-76 (46.1%) from the floor. The Mocs also held the advantage in rebounds, outrebounding the Terriers 47-38. Lakelyn Bouldin led Chattanooga with a game-high 26 points and 12 rebounds, followed by Eboni Williams and Brooke Burns with 19 and 16 points respectively.Â
