Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Balanced effort leads Wofford to dominant win over The Citadel

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - In front of a sellout crowd, the Wofford men's basketball team rolled past The Citadel 112-81 on Thursday night, outscoring the Bulldogs 65-40 in the second half while shooting over 67 percent for the game.

Five Terriers scored in double figures led by Fletcher Magee's 24 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor. Nathan Hoover had an extremely efficient night, totaling 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting, while Keve Aluma, Cameron Jackson and Storm Murphy each contributed 14 points.

Holding an eight-point lead early in the second half, Aluma, Murphy and Hoover scored nine unanswered as Wofford took control and never looked back.

"We had good play across the board," said Wofford head coach Mike Young. "Storm and Ryan (Larson) played well, our bigs played well, and we moved and shot the ball well tonight."

With the win, Wofford is now 11-4 on the season and 3-0 in Southern Conference play. Wofford remains home, hosting Mercer on Saturday at 7 p.m.

"We're making progress," Young said. "We stacked up another league win tonight and we have another big one here on Saturday against Mercer."

After The Citadel jumped out to a brief 6-2 lead, Wofford worked its way back as the two sides proceeded to trade buckets. Neither team would gain an edge until a Magee 3-pointer sparked a 14-3 run in which five different Terriers scored.

"Fletcher Magee has helped our team in a number of ways this season," said Young. "He had an extremely efficient night tonight shooting, and he played great on-ball and team defense to help limit Matt Frierson tonight, and that was a big reason for our success."

The Bulldogs would climb back into the game at the free throw line, pulling to within four with under three minutes to play in the half. Tray Hollowell and Murphy each answered with 3-pointers, establishing some breathing room as the Terriers took a 47-41 lead into the break.

Wofford wasted little time getting going in the second, leading 55-46 when Murphy drilled another 3-pointer. Hoover, who scored 14 of his 22 points in the second period, would start to heat up, hitting an elbow jumper and a deep 3-pointer from the top of the key that pushed the lead to 17.

"It felt a little bit like South Carolina," Hoover said. "They focused a lot on Cameron and Fletcher which allowed me to get some easy buckets early, and everything else just started to fall."

Moments later, Aluma would get in on the action, converting a 3-point play after getting fouled at the rim. The next trip down the court, Jackson got the ball near midcourt, turned and drove the lane, slamming it home over two defenders to put the Terriers up by 20 (73-53).

"We played an awfully nice second half," said Young. "Cameron and Keve are so tough down low on both ends of the floor."

Wofford would extend its lead from this point as Magee and company continued to connect from downtown, combining for 10-second half 3-pointers to run away with the contest.

"Not many people have an answer for a guy like Cameron Jackson," Young said. "And when you put Hoover's and Magee's and Murphy's around guys like Jackson, that makes you nasty to guard."
