CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The Wofford volleyball team completed its four-game road swing on Saturday night, falling to Western Carolina in four sets.
The Catamounts grabbed the first set 25-16, but Wofford responded with a 25-17 win in set two. Western Carolina regained the momentum, taking the next two sets 25-18, 25-19. Wofford is now 10-10 overall this season, going 3-3 in conference play thus far. The Terriers return home, hosting The Citadel on Friday at 6 p.m.
Offensively, the Wofford attack was led by
Catie Cronister and
Kelly Hubbard, who each totaled 13 kills. The 13 kills were a career high for Hubbard, while Cronister recorded her third straight double-double, picking up a team-high 21 digs. Junior
Riley Coonan registered 10 kills of her own, while
Lorissa King dished out 40 assists and
Meghan Yaffa picked up 19 digs.Â
The Catamounts wasted little time taking control, jumping out to a 10-4 advantage to force a Wofford timeout. The Terriers rallied, cutting the deficit to three when Hubbard recorded a kill. Western Carolina took seven of the next nine points, taking set one 25-16.Â
Wofford came out swinging in the second, getting kills from four different players as they blitzed the Catamounts to the tune of 10-1. Western Carolina attempted to rally, but
Claire Meier closed out set two with a kill of her own.
The Catamounts took an early lead in the third, but the Terriers rallied and took a 13-10 lead after a kill from Yaffa. Western Carolina quickly responded, taking the next six points before grabbing the set by seven points. The fourth set unfolded much like the third, as Western Carolina took control near the midpoint before closing out Wofford 25-19.
