BOONE, N.C. – The women's golf team completed play at the Hound Ears Intercollegiate on Tuesday, as Lina Settelmayer finished tied for seventh place while Wofford finished in fifth place overall. Sophomore Becca Earl, who competed as an individual, finished in a tie for 12th place at the Palmetto Intercollegiate.
After opening with a 324 on Monday, the Terriers had a stronger second round, shooting a 303 on Tuesday (627, +51).
Much like the team, Settelmayer struggled a bit in round one, posting a 7-over-par 79. The junior from Heiligenhaus, Germany, rebounded on day two, posting a 74 to finish 9-over-par for the tournament.
Fellow sophomore Speedy Kent was just a shot behind Settelmayer, posting scores of 80 and 74, respectively, to finish in ninth place. Kristine Torralba ended up in a tie for 14th place, posting a 79 on Tuesday. Lindsey Hollis rounded out the scoring for the Terriers, as both Hollis and Emma King, who was competing as an individual, totaled 161 for the tournament.
Earl ties for 12th at Palmetto Intercollegiate (Kiawah Island, S.C.)
Additionally, Earl wrapped up her outing at the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Tuesday, tying for 12th place overall.
"Becca managed her game well for three rounds and made a bunch of good up and downs," said Wofford Head Coach Angie Ridgeway.
The Essex, England, native opened with a 2-over-par 74 on Sunday but followed that performance up by shooting even-par on Monday. Earl saved her best round of the tournament for last, firing a 2-under-par 70 to finish with an even-par 216. Earl did most of her damage on the par 5 holes, shooting 5-under-par while racking up 39 total pars in the three rounds played.
"Five birdies today made up for a couple of mistakes. Overall, it was really good play in a strong field."
