SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford's
Josh Hendry and
Hannah Steelman have been named the Southern Conference men's and women's cross country runners of the week, respectively, for all competition between Oct. 9-15.
Â
Steelman, the reigning SoCon Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year, won the Royals Cross Country Challenge on Friday. The junior from Orono, Maine, finished first overall out of 541 runners in the women's 5K race with a time of 16:48.3. Her win was her second at the race, as she also took home the individual crown last season. Steelman also recorded her second top-three performance of the year after taking third at the Virginia Invitational on Sept. 27. The weekly award is the fourth of Steelman's career and second this season.
Â
Hendry, a sophomore from Kilmacolm, Scotland, was the top finisher for the Terriers at the Royals Cross Country Challenge at 38th overall in a time of 25:02.00, which marked the fastest 8K men's time in school history. He broke the record that was set by
Cisco Ferre (25:02.06) in 2016. This is the first runner of the week honor for Hendry and only the second ever for a Wofford men's runner.
Â
Wofford is off until the Southern Conference Championship on Saturday, November 2, at East Tennessee State.
