MACON, Ga. - The Wofford volleyball team traveled to Macon, Georgia on Friday night, dropping its match in straight sets (18-25, 18-25, 22-25).
With the loss, the Terriers fall below .500, sitting at 11-12 overall and 4-5 in conference play. The Bears move to 10-12 overall, holding a SoCon record of just 3-6.
Bella Zeman recorded a team-high seven kills for the Terriers, while the team combined for just a .129 hitting percentage, mustering 25 kills while Mercer totaled 48.
The match started out with the sides trading points, but the Bears won 8-of-9 points to take a commanding 17-9 lead. Wofford could not get back into the set, failing to record more than two points in a row as Mercer grabbed set one 25-18.
The Terriers jumped out in front early in the second, with
Bella Zeman giving them an 8-5 lead. Mercer would remain close, once again reeling off 8-of-9 points to go ahead by five. Just like the first set, Wofford would not gain much ground, falling again by seven.
The Bears took the momentum going into the third, taking a three-point lead (8-5). The Terriers responded this time, winning five of the next six points to go ahead by a point. Mercer answered right back, taking a four-point lead as it looked to put Wofford away. Trailing 23-17, the Bears nearly let the Terriers back in the set, committing five errors and holding just a two-point advantage before Jaida Howell sealed the match with a kill.
