Macon, GA – The Wofford women's soccer team dropped its penultimate regular season game against the Mercer Bears by a score of 2-0.
The Terriers remain in 7
th place in the SoCon standings after the loss with their record moving to 5-11, 2-6 in conference play. Mercer remains perfect at home and the win brings their record to 14-3 overall, 6-2 in conference, which currently sits them in 3
rd.
The first shot of the game would not come until the 12
th minute by Mercer. The Bears would continue to threaten in the following minutes, but nothing would hit the target. Wofford's first shot would come in the 25
th minute by
Katie Gilligan but would go left of the net to keep the game scoreless.
Maria Mon made her first save of the evening after a shot from Peyton Schurr. Her shot didn't have much behind it and it was easy pickings for Mon. Mon would deny the Bears again just before halftime diving to her left to keep the score level going into the break.
Five minutes out of the half, Mercer would find itself ahead 1-0 with the goal coming from Ciara Whitely. Six minutes later the Bears would double their mark, this time coming from Abigail Zoeller. The Terriers would make multiple changes throughout the last 30 minutes trying to find some sort of offense, but nothing would come of it and the game finished 2-0.
Maria Mon made 5 saves during the match. This marks the 10
th game this season where Mon has made five or more saves. Wofford sent six shots towards the net, two coming from
Katie Gilligan and
Eva Dailey.
Paige Miller and Claire Davis also added a shot each.
With major playoff implications on the line, Wofford will conclude its regular season at The Citadel on Sunday, October 27 at 2:00 p.m.
