STATESBORO, Ga. - The Wofford men's soccer team was defeated 3-2 by Georgia Southern on Friday night at Eagle Field. The game was tied at 2-2 when the Eagles scored the game-winner with eight minutes left in regulation.
Wofford is now 2-7 on the season and Georgia Southern is 5-5 overall. The Eagles had a 14 to 13 advantage in shots in the match. Wofford goals were scored by
Ole Berg and
Adrian Roseth. Roseth also led the Terriers in shots with four.
Shane Berson made three saves in goal.
The Terriers had the first shot of the game, but the Eagles scored at the 5:40 mark on a shot by Adam Davie for a 1-0 advantage. Wofford added a shot by
Austin Tuggle and then
Buster Sjoberg scored his second goal of the season with an assist by
Sam Ross to tie the game at 1-1 with 14:11 on the clock. Wofford had a six to three lead on shots in the first half.
In the second half, the Eagles had the first shot six minutes into play. The teams traded opportunities as the half progress. After a corner kick by the Terriers,
Adrian Roseth scored at the 65:51 mark to give Wofford a 2-1 advantage. Georgia Southern was able to get the equalizer less than three minutes later on a goal by Aldair Cortes. With 81:21 on the clock, Aldair Cortes scored after a Wofford yellow card to give the Eagles a 3-2 lead. Both teams had two shots each in the final seven minutes of the match.
