GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Wofford volleyball team traveled to Furman for a SoCon matchup on Friday, defeating the Paladins in three sets.
The Terriers held off Furman in all three sets to grab their ninth win of the season (25-22, 26-24, 27-25). Wofford now sits at 9-8 overall (2-1 SoCon) and will travel to UNCG on Saturday for a match against the Spartans at 5 p.m.-
Catie Cronister and Meghan Yaffa each totaled 11 kills, while Lorissa King dished out 35 assists and Emily Durham picked up 12 digs. As a team, the Terriers totaled 44 kills to Furman's 40, totaling 10 blocks and seven service aces in the win.
Wofford took control early, leading 9-5 before the Paladins pulled to within three. With the score 16-13, Wofford jumped out to a commanding 24-15 lead, but the Paladins reeled off seven points in a row before Kelly Bossert finally clinched the set.
In the second set, Wofford went ahead 7-3 but Furman cut the deficit to one point. Each time the Terriers established distance between the two sides, Furman answered. With the score knotted up at 15-15, the Paladins jumped ahead by one (18-17), extending the lead to 22-20 moments later. Wofford rallied to tie the set at 24-24, getting a kill by Emory Wyatt and an ace from Cronister to close out set number two.
The third set mirrored the second, with the Terriers getting out in front early. Furman kept the set close, but could not get closer than two points until it scored five unanswered to take a 23-22 lead and force a Wofford timeout. King sent home a kill out of the break and the Terriers avoided match point twice, grabbing the last three points and taking the match via a kill from Claire Meier.
