GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Wofford volleyball team traveled to UNCG on Saturday, defeating the Spartans in four sets.
Riley Coonan recorded a team-high 13 kills while Claire Meier and Catie Cronister each totaled 10, with Cronister picking up 18 digs. Wofford improves to 10-8 on the season, moving to 3-1 in SoCon play. The Terriers remain on the road, traveling to ETSU to face the Bucs on Friday.
With the score knotted up at 15-15, Emory Wyatt and Meier each recorded kills while a Cronister service ace gave Wofford a three-point lead. After the Terriers jumped ahead by four, the Spartans reeled off four points in a row to tie the set at 22-22, but two errors from UNCG would give Wofford first set.
The second set was back-and-forth to start put UNCG pulled ahead by three points late, holding a 24-21 lead. The Terriers would rally, fending off match point three times before Meghan Yaffa and Coonan recorded kills to put Wofford up 2-0.
The Terriers jumped out to an early lead in the third, but the Spartans rallied and scored seven unanswered, taking a lead they would not relinquish. Set number four was Wofford from the start, as Cronister put the Terriers up 7-2 with an ace. After the Spartans cut the deficit to two points, Wofford would push its lead to nine (20-11), grabbing victory when Kennedy Smith sent home a kill to clinch the set at 25-14.
