Catie Cronister's 20 kills, 10 of which came in the decisive fourth set, the Wofford volleyball team notched another win at home on Saturday night, downing Furman 25-15, 25-23, 23-25, 30-28.
Four Terriers totaled double-figure kills including
Riley Coonan (12),
Meghan Yaffa (11) and
Claire Meier (10), with 49 points being set up via
Lorissa King assists. The win improves the Terriers' record to 13-13 (6-6 SoCon), moving to 8-1 at the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. The team had another strong night at the net, hitting .320 while racking up 60 kills and 11 blocks.
Wofford wasted little time establishing control, taking a 9-4 lead and forcing a Furman timeout. The Paladins rallied to cut the deficit to one, but the Terriers kept them at bay, winning eight of the last nine points as set one was capped off by a pair of kills from Cronister.
The second set unfolded much like the first at the start, with Wofford clinging to an 11-10 lead before a pair of kills, Furman errors and an ace from Cronister gave the Terriers a 16-10 advantage. After extending its lead to seven, the Paladins rallied to make the score 24-23 in favor of Wofford before an error put the Terriers up 2-0.
Looking to extend the match, Furman traded points with Wofford to open up the third. A mid-set rally gave the Terriers what looked to be a safe eight-point lead, but the Paladins crept back into the set, cutting the deficit to one (19-18) and forcing a Wofford timeout. Coonan would make the score 21-19 but four straight kills gave Furman the two-point edge, getting a kill from Katie Murphy to send the match to a fourth set.
Furman carried the momentum into the fourth set, holding the lead the entire time until a five-point run from the Terriers made the score 22-20. From here, the set went back and forth with four lead changes, seven ties and six match points. Trailing 24-23, Cronister extended the set with a kill as Wofford eventually took a 27-26 edge. As the teams traded points, Cronister swung the momentum Wofford's way one more time, sending home her 20th kill of the night before an ace from
Bella Zeman gave the Terriers the 30-28 victory.
