Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Terriers Win Third Straight, Knock Off Presbyterian

Spartanburg, S.C. – Wofford women's basketball ended a 26-year drought against the Blue Hose Tuesday night, after they took down Presbyterian 67-60.

Wofford was down early but came back to draw the score even by the media timeout break. Chloe Wanink was 3-3 at this point with six of her seven points coming from three-point land. Lilly Hatton was also 2-2 with a steal and a block. Hatton would make a layup and Niyah Lutz would connect on a 3-pointer to end the 1st quarter down by one, 20-19.

The Terriers came out strong to start the 2nd quarter with Alexis Tomlin putting up a layup and Wanink hitting another triple to push the team out to a four-point lead. Presbyterian came back on a 9-0 run until Wanink once again splashed a trey. Presbyterian wasn't done there as they scored seven of the final nine points in the quarter, which saw Wofford trail at the half 36-29.

Wofford had no trouble coming back from this minor deficit. A 14-1 run by the Terriers over the opening five minutes of the 3rd quarter gave them the lead back 41-38, with buckets coming from Hatton, Jamari McDavid, and Da'Ja Green. Green would see her 3-point shot fall and Tomlin added another layup to give Wofford a 48-47 advantage going into the final quarter.

A back-and-forth start to the 4th quarter saw Presbyterian take the lead, but Wofford was having none of it and came back with a vengeance. Hatton made back-to-back shots, Green hit another triple, McDavid had a fast break layup, and Wanink sunk three free-throws, all this part of a 10-2 run throughout the 4th quarter which led the Terriers to a 67-60 victory.

Jamari McDavid led the way with her 3rd career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Chloe Wanink had a team-high 19 points. Lilly Hatton had herself a career night dropping 15 points and tallying four blocks. Da'Ja Green also got into double figures with 10 points and added nine assists. Wofford as a team shot 49% from the floor and 60% from 3-point land, both are season highs.

"Really proud of our team tonight. Our players had to learn some new plays for tonight, and they did a great job getting open and I think that was part of our success and why we shot such a high percentage," said Garrity. "We took advantage of the opportunities we had and converted on those. Really proud of Lilly and Jamari tonight. They were monsters, Jamari with a double-double and Lilly knocking down a three and a couple deep range shots. The team will come back Friday and we will start preparing for Georgia Southern and it will take our best effort to win."

The Terriers return to Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium after the Thanksgiving break on Sunday, December 1 to face off against Georgia Southern.
