Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Wofford’s Win Streak Snapped, Fall to Georgia Southern

Spartanburg, S.C. – The Wofford women's basketball team dropped their first game in two weeks, falling to Georgia Southern 70-57. The loss brings the Terriers' record to 3-5 while Georgia Southern moves to 2-4 after their second straight win.

It was a rough 1st quarter for the black and gold, converting on only 11% of their shots. Chloe Wanink had a 3-pointer and Da'Ja Green made a layup to combine for Wofford's total of five points for the quarter. Green also led the floor with seven rebounds.

The 2nd quarter was more positive for the Terriers. Wofford outscored Georgia Southern 13-10, and if it wasn't for Alexis brown, the Eagles wouldn't have had any points in the quarter. Wofford started the scoring with a Wanink layup after a beautiful feed from Jamie Grob. Jamari McDavid then cut the Eagle lead to three after her 10-foot jumper. Green added five more and Niyah Lutz made a pair of shots to bring the deficit to four, 22-18 going into halftime.

Green kicked off the scoring to start the 3rd quarter, but the Eagles came right back to get their lead up to seven. The Terriers continued to scratch their way back into the game, once again with Green leading the way, as she notched a double-double with 20 second remaining in the quarter.

Wofford was able to hang around in the 4th quarter with the deficit going back-and-forth from five to four points. Cairo Booker came alive in the 4th dropping seven points giving the Terriers life near the end, but fouls became an issue and Georgia Southern knocked down their free-throws to secure the win.

Da'Ja Green notched her 7th double-double of her career, finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Cairo Booker had a game-high three assists and three steals, while Lilly Hatton, Alexis Tomlin, Chloe Wanink, and MaryMartha Turner all earned themselves a block.

"Turnovers were killer, we had 14 at halftime and that led to points for Georgia Southern, but we were only down by 4 at halftime," said Coach Garrity. "That game was going to be about toughness. Getting open, making plays, knocking down shots, and we just had a tough time today. Da'Ja had a heck of a game today. She did everything she could to power and motivate the team to victory, unfortunately we couldn't come out on top."
