SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Wofford volleyball team hosted ETSU on Saturday, nearly forcing a fifth set before falling to the Bucs in four at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium (15-25, 20-25, 25-20, 26-28).
Wofford is not 14-14 on the year, sitting at 7-7 in the Southern Conference.
Catie Cronister led the Wofford attack with 15 kills on the night, picking up three digs and an ace.
Riley Coonan also had a strong game at the net, totaling 11 kills and three block while
Lorissa King dished out 30 assists.
ETSU jumped out to an early 8-4 lead in the first, holding the advantage until the Terriers won 6-of-7 points and knotted the score up at 13-13. The two sides traded points, but a 6-0 run made the score 21-14 in favor of the Bucs, taking the set by 10.
Set two was even until the midway point when a kill and a pair of aces put the Bucs ahead 15-11. After Wofford cut the deficit to two, ETSU won four consecutive points, grabbing set two after an error from the Terriers.
Looking to put Wofford away, ETSU jumped out to a 12-5 lead before a Bucs error spurred a 6-0 run from the Terriers that made the lead just one point. ETSU would take the next two points, but once again, Wofford scored six unanswered to take a 17-14 lead. ETSU would tie the set at 19-19 before the Terriers won six of the last seven points to extend the set.
Wofford took the momentum into the fourth, leading 9-6 before ETSU went ahead by two. The teams would go back and forth with the Bucs pulling ahead 24-23 before committing an error. The Bucs responded quickly, winning the next two points to claim the season series.
