Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Media Relations

Women’s Basketball Falls to Northern Kentucky

Highland Heights, KY – The Wofford women's basketball team had their three-game win streak snapped after a hard-fought game against the Norse. The loss takes the Terriers to 6-7 overall and Northern Kentucky moves to 6-5.

Jamari McDavid set the tone early for Wofford as she made an eight-footer, followed by a transition layup after a Lilly Hatton block. On the next possession, Chloe Wanink hit a triple after a feed from Da'Ja Green to put the Terriers up 9-5. Wanink would hit another trey, but the game was all even at the media timeout, 14-14. After Northern Kentucky took their first lead of the night, Wanink matched a 3-pointer for her third of the quarter. A very offensive 1st quarter would end with Niyah Lutz nailing a three, giving Wofford a 27-23 lead.

The 2nd quarter began with the same energy that ended the 1st as both teams traded baskets. Cairo Booker drove to the rim for a layup and assisted on a McDavid layup. Booker added another assist after she found Da'Ja Green for a deep three. McDavid would end a 13-0 run by the Norse after she converted a layup and made Northern Kentucky call a timeout, with the Norse leading 41-36. The Terriers would fight their way back into the game with layups from Niyah Lutz and Cairo Booker, ending the half down 45-42.

The 3rd quarter started with the Norse going on a 14-4 run, forcing Wofford to call a timeout. Out of the timeout, Green knocked down a three after an offensive rebound by Booker, bringing the Wofford deficit to 10. This time it would be Northern Kentucky forced into a timeout after Lawren Cook had a put-back layup, bringing the score to 59-53. Alea Harris broke a scoreless run for Wofford when she drove the rim from the corner with a beautiful up-and-under move. The quarter ended with a good defensive stop from the Terriers, holding the Norse to a 10-point lead going into the final frame.

Just as she started the game, Jamari McDavid kicked off the 4th quarter with a jumper in the paint after the inbound pass from Da'Ja Green. Wanink was able to draw a foul and hit both her free-throws, and Green made a step-back jumper to break the Norse lead to single digits, 71-63 with 4:38 remaining. Lilly Hatton floats a teardrop off the window to cut the lead to seven, with both teams trading offensive fouls. Green made a three with just over a minute remaining, but it would ultimately be too little too late as the Norse held on 80-72.

Jamari McDavid had a team-high 16 points, with Da'Ja Green and Chloe Wanink contributing 15 each. Green had a game-high 8 assists and Lilly Hatton had a game-high 4 blocks.

"I thought we started the game out really good; our offense was clicking," said Garrity. "What it boiled down to was we made too many mistakes to beat that team on the road, but the team will enjoy the holiday break and come back ready to play."

The Terriers will take a holiday break and will return to action when they travel to Kansas on December 30th for their final game of 2019. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
