SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's tennis team tied the match up at 3-3 in front of an engaged crowd at Reeves Tennis Center before dropping a nail-biter in the last singles match to give the visiting College of Charleston Cougars the 4-3 win at the end of the match.
Javi Casasolas,
Omar Williams, and
Lucas Cerbelli all recorded singles wins on the day, though, the loss drops Wofford to 3-6 overall, as the Cougars move to 4-1.
Â
"Losing 6-4 in the third set with the match on the line isn't a fun experience, but this was a great match," said head coach
Rod Ray. "Both teams played hard. I'm proud of the surge we made after losing doubles."
Â
The Cougars started the match with a 1-0 lead after doubles, taking matches on both the No. 3 and No. 2 courts to start the day.
Â
The Cougars' Robby Krick and Ben Cawston took a commanding win over
Kyle Barr and
John Crawford on the No. 3 court to start the match, as the duo of
Omar Williams and
Bryce Keim competed hard, but ultimately dropped a 6-4 decision against Charleston's Johnny Wang and Benedikt Henning.
Â
Julian Chousa and
Javi Casasolas entertained in No. 1 doubles, with a competitive matchup against Easton Thomas and Ksawery Pociej that went unfinished, up 5-4, at the end of No. 2 doubles.
Â
The Terriers picked up three singles wins to climb back against the Cougars, as the match was decided in No. 3 singles to end the day.
Â
Sophomore
Javi Casasolas (No. 6) picked up the first point for the Terriers, defeating Krick, 6-2, 6-0.
Â
Charleston's Henning would then retaliate with a win over Chousa on the No. 1 court, followed by Pociej on the No. 5 court, 6-4, 6-2, over
Bryce Keim.
Â
Sophomore
Omar Williams would spark the comeback surge with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Thomas on the No. 2 court, as junior
Lucas Cerbelli knotted the match at 3-3 with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Johnny Wang.
Â
Sophomore

With the match on the line, Villar and Cawston battled back and forth, though, Cawston would eventually come out on top, taking the tiebreaker set (6-4) to give College of Charleston their fourth win of the season.
"We can work with today's effort," added coach Ray. "The environment with all the fans was awesome. I'd like to thank everyone for supporting the team so well."
