HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Wofford men's golf team completed its first tournament of the spring season on Tuesday, finishing 11th in the Wexford Intercollegiate.
After posting scores of 308 and 307 in the first two rounds, the Terriers finished strong, shooting a 292 on Tuesday. The tournament was won by Charleston Southern, who shot a 12-over-par 876 while Memphis' Brad Bawden shot a 4-under-par 212 to claim the individual title.
"It was a solid bounce back from our slow start to the spring yesterday," said Wofford head coach
Alex Hamilton. "I'm proud of their effort and fight and am looking forward to a week off before playing in Aiken."
Walker Simas led the way for the Terriers, tying for 25th place by shooting a 7-over-par 223. Simas opened with a 73 on Monday before posting a 79 in round two. The junior bounced back Tuesday, posting his best round of 71 to finish the tournament.
Sophomore
Ryan Marter finished tied for 45th place, opening with a first-round 78 before closing with scores of 76 and 75 in rounds two and three.
Nick Willis and
Walker Jones both totaled 230 for the tournament, finishing with a third-round 75 and 73, respectively.
Henry Augenstein capped off his 2019 debut with a third-round 73 as well.
Wofford will return to the course on March 11, competing in the Palmetto Intercollegiate.
