SPARTANBURG, S.C. - It was a tale of two halves for the Wofford women's lacrosse team, falling to Butler 17-10 on Wednesday.
The Terriers, who are now 1-5 on the season, were outscored 8-1 in the first, but played an even second half, matching Butler's nine scores.
Elisabeth Ralph had a team-high five goals while
Hannah Mutch had a pair and
Kelsey Thompson racked up 14 saves. Mutch also had three assists, second only to
Sophie Smith who totaled four.
Neither team scored for the first six minutes, but Butler finally got on the board with a goal from Lindsey Schreiber. The Bulldogs would extend their lead to seven before Ralph netted her seventh goal of the season to make it 7-1.
After Butler extended its lead to nine, Mutch found the back of the net before three straight goals from Smith made the score 10-5. The Bulldogs would take a 10-goal lead, but Wofford finished strong, scoring five of the last seven goals in the game.
The Terriers will face Hartford at the United States Lacrosse facility in Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday.
