Women's Tennis Advances to First SoCon Semifinals Appearance, Sweeps No. 6 Mercer 4-0

Terriers notch first ever quarterfinals victory

MACON, Ga.  – The Wofford women's tennis team advances to their first ever semifinals appearance in the 2019 Southern Conference Women's Tennis Championship after defeating No. 6 seed Mercer, 4-0, for their first SoCon quarterfinals victory in program history on Thursday afternoon. Wofford's top doubles pair of Cassidy Hicks and Jenna Vroman picked up their 15th doubles victory of the year, marking the most doubles win in a season in program history, while Vroman, sophomore Brittney Wilbur, and senior Curran Carver earned Wofford's singles wins in the sweep. The Terriers will now go on face No. 2 seed ETSU tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center.

Mercer would open the match taking No. 3 doubles to start before the Terriers would bring in the next two wins to earn the doubles point.

Cassidy Hicks and Jenna Vroman solidified their mark as Wofford's most successful doubles pair, earning a competitive 7-5 win over Katie Sidor and Celine Schepers on the No. 1 court, while first-years Liz Massie and Lilie Steryous sealed the deal with a 6-3 decision on the No. 2 court to add their third win of the year.

Brittney Wilbur kicked things off for the Terriers in singles, dropping Mottet in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) for her third victory of the year in the No. 5 slot.

Vroman avenged her loss to Katie Sidor from their last meeting a couple weeks ago, earning the win in No. 1 singles with a decisive second set, 6-4, 6-0, to push the lead to 3-0 early on. The win marks Vroman's 15th on the year.

Curran Carver would be the one to put the nail in the coffin, as the senior defeated Anna Sovic in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5, for her sixth win of the year, while clinching the program's first quarterfinals win in sweeping fashion.
