SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Furman Paladins paced the field at the Country Club of Spartanburg on Monday and Tuesday, shooting 25-under-par 839 in cold and windy conditions. Furman also earned the individual title, as Jack Crosby fired a 13-under-par 203 to win the tournament.
Austin Peay State (+2) and Radford (+3) finished in second and third, respectively, while USC Upstate (+7) took fourth place with Belmont and Gardner-Webb tying for fifth. Wofford finished just behind those squads, totaling a 12-over-par 876 for the tournament. The Terriers were 17-over-par on par 4 scoring, but shot 2-under par on the par 5 holes, totaling 13 birdies for the tournament.
Ryan Marter was the top finisher for the Terriers, shooting a 1-over-par 217 through three rounds to tie for 17
th place overall. The sophomore opened up Monday by shooting even par before firing a 4-under-par 68 to close out round two. On Tuesday, Marter battled the cold to post a 5-over-par 77, birdieing holes No. 5, 11 and 15 to finish one-over and tie for 19
th place for the tournament.Â
Walker Simas and
Walker Jones, the top two scorers for the Terriers entering the week, both finished just one stroke behind Marter with a 2-over-par 218. Simas posted a 4-under-par 68 in round one, putting up a pair of 75's in the last two rounds. Jones, a freshman, opened up with a 3-under-par 69 on Monday, shooting a 76 in round two and a 73 in the third and final round.Â
Matthew Copeland rounded out the scoring for Wofford, totaling 227 for the three rounds.
Wofford has a quick turnaround, competing in the Clemson Invitational this Friday through Sunday.Â
