Wofford drops contest to Kennesaw State

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Wofford women's lacrosse team hosted Kennesaw State on Sunday, falling to the Owls by a score of 19-8.

The Terriers totaled 23 shots, 13 draw controls, eight ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Seven different players scored goals in the game as Ally Furnari led the way with two goals and one assist. Shannon Wulff, who scored a goal, dished out two assists and totaled four shots. Kelsey Thompson picked up six saves in net. adding two ground balls.

Wofford struck right out of the gate, as Wulff found Furnari in front of the net to make it 1-0 Terriers. After Kennesaw State responded with a goal, Emily Elstun took a pass from Furnari and buried it to once again give Wofford the one-goal advantage. The tide would turn from here, however, as the Owls tallied the next 12 goals.

Looking to carry some momentum into the second, Furnari would end the scoring drought, finding the back of the net unassisted to make the score 13-3.

Kennesaw State opened the second half with a quick goal, but it was Wofford's turn to go on a run, as the Terriers scored four in a row, sparked by Hannah Mutch's unassisted goal. JoJo Franklin, Shannon Wulff and Hannah Wurzel all scored as Wofford cut the deficit to eight (15-7).

Once again, the Owls answered, scoring the next four goals before Wofford's Delaney Irwin registered her first goal of the season, connecting on a free position shot.

The Terriers will hit the road next, traveling to Central Michigan Friday before facing Detroit Mercy on Sunday.
