SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's cross country teams competed on Saturday morning in the Eye Opener at the Roger Milliken Research Center Park. The women were second overall and the men were third.

The race was originally scheduled for Friday afternoon, however due to inclement weather the race was delay until 7:15 a.m. on Saturday with the men and women starting at the same time.

In the women's 5K race,
Taryn Schoen led the Terriers with a time of 19:01.7 which was eleventh overall. She was followed by
Sommer McKenzie (19:13.3),
Mary Stewart Wilson (19:24.4), Annie Mayfield (19:34.4) and
Anna Lyles (20:29.0) to round out the scorers. Also competing were
Whitley Elsass and
Anastasia Burroughs.

The men's 8K competition followed and
Josh Hendry was the first Terrier to cross the finish line in 27:02.9 to place 15
th overall.
Ford McCoy (28:12.5),
Beck Classey (28:36.0),
Collin Bertram (28:54.7) and
Palmer Haigler (29:00.7) scored for Wofford.
Walker Gibbs,
Ryan O'Malley,
Demir Degirmenci and
Jack Moody also competed in the race.

Overall, Furman was first in both the men's and women's races. USC Upstate, North Greenville, Walters State and USC Aiken also competed, with ten other programs opting not to run after the schedule change to Saturday morning. Â

Both the men's and women's teams will be back in action on Friday, September 27 at the Virginia Invitational. Â
