DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Wofford volleyball team opened up play in the Davidson Invitational on Friday, falling in three sets to High Point.
MATCH POINTS
High Point wasted no time taking control, scoring the first seven points before Coonan registered her first kill of the day to get the Terriers on the board. Wofford would even the set at 8-8 after Cronister and Smith each sent home a pair of kills. After trading points, the Panthers went up by four, slowly extending the lead to eight. Trailing 24-17, the Terriers reeled off six points in a row, but ran out of time as High Point took the first set.
The second set started out evenly, but a 10-0 run for the Panthers quickly made the score 14-4. The Terriers responded with a 7-0 rally of their own, but could not overcome High Point which took the last six points of the set. The third set began like the second, with High Point jumping out to a 14-5 lead. Trailing 21-9, Wofford would charge back, winning 11-of-13 points and force a Panthers timeout. The Terriers ran out of time in the end, falling by four points.
Wofford, who now sits at 5-7, looks to get back to .500 on Saturday, facing tournament-host Davidson at noon before a match with Jacksonville at 4 p.m.
