ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Wofford men's soccer team (2-4-0) defeated UNC Asheville (1-5-1), 4-0, on Saturday night at Greenwood Soccer Field. Aiming to get back in the win column after dropping their previous two matches, the Terriers scored first on a goal from freshman
Adrian Roseth and never looked back.
Making the short trip north to Asheville, the Terriers recorded eight shots in the first half off the feet of four different players. With his goal in the 36
th minute, Roseth tallied his first collegiate goal on an assist from fellow freshman
Brandon Oddy, giving Wofford an early 1-0 lead. Although the Bulldogs would counter with eight shots of their own, the Terrier defense held strong as they took this lead into the locker room at halftime.
Coming out of the break, Roseth and Oddy continued to apply pressure on the Bulldogs by notching more shots on the opposing net.
Ole Berg, who transferred from the University of Denver before the season, joined the action by scoring on an assist from senior
Austin Tuggle in the 73
rd minute, extending the Terriers lead to 2-0. Just seven minutes later,
Meade Fowler also tallied his first collegiate goal, solidifying Wofford's lead at 3-0. As the match was winding down, Oddy put the Bulldogs away for good, scoring in the 83
rd minute to give the Terriers a 4-0 lead. Despite one final shot from UNC Asheville's Andrew Rossetti in the final minute of the contest, Wofford would cruise to their first road win of the season.
Overall, it was a historic night for the Terriers as all four players who scored notched their first collegiate goals. The offense was in sync all night, as
Lucas Altman and
Eduardo Velazco also recorded shots against the Bulldogs. Additionally, sophomore
Shane Berson logged three saves in goal.
Wofford will resume play on Tuesday, September 24 when they welcome No. 10 Charlotte to Snyder Field at 7:00 pm. This match can be streamed live on the Southern Conference Digital Network at game time.
