SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Wofford women's golf team completed play at the 2019 Elon Invitational on Tuesday, finishing in second place and setting a new program record low for 54 holes as a team while sophomore
Becca Earl was a runner-up for the individual title.
Competing at the Alamance Country Club's par-71 course, the Terriers shot a first-round 291, a second-round 290 and a round three 294, totaling 875 through 54 holes. That team total was the lowest since Wofford shot a combined 884 at the SCSU Bulldog Invitational (par 72) in 2012.
"I'm proud of the good play by everyone," said Wofford head coach
Angie Ridgeway. "In golf, staying present is a constant challenge and I'm most proud of how well everyone did that."
Earl, who opened the tournament with an even-par round one and a 5-under-par 66 in round two on Monday, was 1-over-par for the day on Tuesday. After posting a pair of birdies, the Essex, England native birdied hole No. 17 to edge out a pair of golfers and secure sole possession of second place. Earl ranked second in par 3 scoring (-1) and tied for third with 10 total birdies for the tournament, totaling 38 pars.
Junior
Lina Settelmayer closed out the tournament like she opened it, posting a round-three 73 to tie for 11th place overall. Much like Settelmayer, freshman
Lindsey Hollis had a pair of 73's to finish tied for 22nd place, while
Nicole Amos rounded out the scoring for Wofford.
The Terriers have a week off, returning to the course on October 6 when they open play at the Winthrop Fall Invitational.
