BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Wofford women's soccer team was defeated 1-0 by Samford on Sunday night at the Samford Track and Soccer Complex. The Bulldogs scored in the first half and withstood a late surge by the Terriers for the victory.
Wofford is now 3-7 on the season, falling to 0-2 in SoCon play. Samford is 4-2-5 overall and 1-0-1 in the league. Overall the Bulldogs had a six to five advantage in shots on goal over the Terriers.
Katie Gilligan had three shots to lead the team, while
Maria Mon had five saves.
The Bulldogs had the first shot of the game five minutes into play.
Maria Mon made her first save of the match with 23:44 on the clock. At 26:19, Samford got on the board with a goal by Kayla Reynolds which was assisted by Erin Bonner. Mon added a save three minutes later.
Katie Gilligan had the first shot of the game for the Terriers with two minutes remaining in the first half, but the Bulldogs added two more shots that were saved by Mon in the final ninety seconds.
In the second half, neither team had a shot for the first eight minutes. At 59:33

Karen Majewski added a shot that was saved by the Bulldogs at the 66:17 mark. In the last three minutes of play,
Katie Gilligan and
McKenzie Guest had shots saved.
Next, the Terriers return home on Friday, October 4 to host VMI at 7:00 p.m. at Snyder Field. On Sunday, October 6, the Terriers will host UNC Greensboro at 2:00 p.m.
